Newcastle United have completed the signing of Jacob Murphy from Championship outfit Norwich City for a fee believed to be in the region of £12million.
The Premier League new boys have beaten Crystal Palace, Southampton, Swansea and West Brom to the Englishman’s signature, who is Newcastle’s fifth summer signing.
The 22-year-old winger has been one of Rafa Benitez’s prime transfer targets this summer, and the Spaniard is delighted to have secured a deal.
It was reported last week that Newcastle had an £8m bid rejected for Murphy, but they conjured up a £12 million bid that the Canaries could not turn down.
The pacey winger enjoyed a successful spell with England U21, starring in a key role, as England reached the semi-finals, only to be knocked out on penalties by Germany.
A product of Norwich City’s academy, Murphy has had loan spells at the likes of Swindon, Blackpool and Coventry, before being given the opportunity to ply his trade in the Premier League.
