Newcastle United are reportedly in talks to sign Atletico Madrid full-back Javier Manquillo, according to the Daily Mail.
Manquillo spent last season on loan at North East rivals Sunderland, but could not do enough to help save the Black Cats, as they were consigned to relegation from the Premier League.
Some reports are saying that Newcastle have offered the Spaniard a three-year deal, with a medical scheduled for the near future.
The 23-year-old, who has fallen out of favour at Atletico, made 22 appearances for Sunderland last season, netting once at Stamford Bridge, in a 5-1 defeat to Chelsea.
Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez hasn’t had the best of luck in the transfer market as of yet, with various top targets opting to sign elsewhere rather than come to Tyneside.
The former Liverpool boss will be hoping to add Manquillo to his ranks to bolster Newcastle’s defence, as his newly promoted side look to get off to a good start next season.
