The Chronicle reports that despite Yoan Gouffran now being a free agent, Newcastle United have held further discussions with the player over a new deal.
Gouffran is said to be weighing up his options after stalling on the first offer of a one-year contract placed down by Newcastle. The player’s agent has requested better personal terms on any potential new deal with the club.
The 31-year-old French winger has also attracted interest from Turkey since his release from Newcastle.
Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez said back in May;
“I can confirm we are in early stage discussions now with Yoan’s agent to see if there might be a solution that could work for both the player and the club which may see Yoan extend his service to Newcastle United.”
Gouffran helped the side to a title-winning season as the club gained promotion from the Championship back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.
The Frenchman signed for the Magpies back in 2013 and has made 119 appearances for the club since then, scoring 16 league goals.
