The defender joined Newcastle as a teenager from Servette in January 2013, but only made five appearances for the Magpies due to injuries and various loan spells.
Despite injuries hindering his progress, Steve McClaren, the manager at the time, handed Mbabu a surprise debut in the Capital One Cup defeat to Sheffield Wednesday in September 2015, before giving him a Premier League appearance against Chelsea three days later.
The 22-year-old enjoyed a successful loan spell at the Stade de Suisse, helping his side finish second in the Swiss Super League. He made 23 appearances for Young Boys over the course of a successful season for the club, managing to get on the scoresheet twice, with a goal in the Swiss Cup against Grasshopper Club, and in the league against FC Basel.
Newcastle have wished Mbabu well for the future.
