Rafa Benitez has confirmed that he is interested in signing Napoli goalkeeper Pepe Reina this summer, as per a report by Scott Wilson of The Northern Echo.
The 34-year-old was one of the Premier League’s best goalkeepers under Benitez at Liverpool and the pair have also worked together at Napoli, with their relationship said to be really strong.
Reina is reportedly keen to leave the Serie A club and with just 12 months remaining on his current contract, Newcastle could get him for around £4million.

According to the report, Tim Krul, Karl Darlow and Matz Sels will all be sold this summer as Newcastle re-jig their goalkeeping resources. Rob Elliot and Freddie Woodman are likely to stay at the club with Benitez hoping that they will provide the back-up to Reina.
Newcastle’s transfer policy has often seem them favour younger players and the Magpies rarely buy anyone over the age of 30 but they are likely to make an exception for a goalkeeper.
