Newcastle could be closing in a summer signing already, with reports out in France suggesting that they are leading the chase to sign Angers striker Nicolas Pépé.
According to L’Équipe, as covered by GFFN, the Magpies are looking ready to make their move for the Angers man as Rafael Benitez looks to sharpen up his attacking options ahead of his side’s highly anticipated return to Premier League football next season.
It’s claimed by L’Équipe that Newcastle have lodged an enquiry regarding Pépé’s availability ahead of a summer move, but face competition from the likes of Watford, Hamburg and Wolfsburg.
Benitez has previously scouted the Ivory Coast international and is claimed to have made a move for him in January, along with now-relegated Hull City, and is set to revisit Pépé this summer.
The Spaniard watched the forward at the Parc des Princes in Anger’s clash against PSG in November last year.
