Newcastle target Semedo could be set for summer exit
Sporting CP are reportedly ready to let go of young defender Ruben Semedo, with Newcastle claimed to have initiated contact already over a summer move.
According to a report from the printed edition of Portuguese news outlet A Bola today, as covered by Sport Witness recently, Semedo has been placed on the transfer list by the Primeira Liga side and is likely to seal a switch this summer.
Rafa Benitez may be keen to add some more defensive quality to his ranks as Newcastle look to strengthen ahead of their first season back in the Premier League, and Semedo may very well be a plausible option.
However, if Benitez is to seal the signing of the former Portugal Under-21 international, he and his recruitment team will need to fend off some competition from clubs elsewhere in England.
Everton are still holding an interest, while West Brom are also stated to be waiting in the wings. Southampton have also been tracking Semedo for well over a year now.
