Newcastle in contact with Rodriguez’s representatives
Newcastle are keen to bolster their squad with Premier League experience this summer and reports suggest that they’re in contact with Jay Rodriguez’s representatives over a potential move.
According to a report from the Chronicle Live, the Magpies have been keeping tabs on the Southampton forward and he’s set to be offered out to clubs as they look to offload him this summer.
Rodriguez netted the opener at the weekend as Saints defeated already-relegated Middlesbrough 2-1 away from home on what was a rare start for him.
The one-time England international has struggled to recover fully from a knee injury he sustained in 2014 and this has seen his progress heavily limited.
He’s low down in the pecking order at St Mary’s as well, with both Charlie Austin and Manolo Gabbiadini ahead of him and fellow striker Shane Long in Claude Puel’s reckoning.
Although Rodriguez will never be back to his brilliant best from in 2014, he could still have something to offer to Rafa Benitez ahead of the coming season.
