Newcastle United ended the Championship season as champions thanks to a 3-0 win at home to Barnsley after Brighton could only manage a draw against Aston Villa.
Ayoze Perez, Chancel Mbemba and Dwight Gayle all got on the score sheet for the Magpies, who did their job with relative ease whilst the fans kept a close eye on events at Villa Park and St James’ Park went wild when news of Jack Grealish’s goal for Villa came through.
Having looked like they’d lost the chance to win the title just a few short weeks ago, it was a pleasant surprise for Newcastle to even go into this game with a sniff of winning it and Rafa Benitez’s men put on a thoroughly professional display.
