Newcastle United are interested in signing Werder Bremen centre-back Luca Caldirola, according to a report from Sky Germany.
The 26-year-old is currently on loan at fellow Bundesliga side Darmstadt and despite them struggling at the foot of the table, it is believed that both the Magpies and fellow promotion hopefuls Huddersfield Town are keen to sign him.

Newcastle obviously have a huge advantage over the Terriers as they’ve already secured promotion but if David Wagner’s side go on to win the playoffs, they could fancy their chances due to Wagner’s Bundesliga contacts and the fact that he’s already signed players from there in the past and shown a willingness to play them.
Newcastle are apparently looking to add another centre-back and were recently linked with a move for Stoke City’s Ryan Shawcross. However, the Potters are looking to offer him a contract extension and it looks like he’ll stay at the Bet365 Stadium, so Rafa Benitez will need to look elsewhere.
