Newcastle will end the weekend in second place in the Championship table after a 2-1 loss to Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough.
Brighton’s win on Friday night took them top of the table and Newcastle had the chance to respond but failed to do so, putting in a lackluster performance.
They also lost top-scorer Dwight Gayle after half an hour, so it wasn’t exactly a great evening for the Magpies!
Shelf Wed were the better team in the first half and should have been ahead at the break, although Jonjo Shelvey nearly scored from his own half with a spectacular effort.
The home side scored two headers in ten minutes and despite Shelvey’s late goal, they didn’t look like surrendering their lead.
