Has Christian Atsu found home at Newcastle United?

Since signing for Chelsea in 2013 Christian Atsu’s career has been far from stable as he has been out on loan 5 times including his current loan spell to Newcastle.

Although his club football has been unstable his international career has been superb ever since he made his debut for Ghana in 2012. He’s scored 9 goals in 42 games for his country and was awarded Player of the Tournament at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.

In the past 4 season Atsu has only started 30 games in total for the 4 clubs he’s been loaned out to (Vitesse, Everton, Bournemouth and Malaga) this is not good enough for a player of his ability. He struggled to get game time at Everton and Bournemouth but made a good showing of himself in Holland and Spain.

Nicknamed ‘the Ghanaian Messi’ when he first came onto the scene in 2012, Atsu has struggled to perform consistently at the top level but he has shown glimpses throughout his career of the talent he possesses. Especially during his loan spell at Vitesse where he scored 6 goals and grabbed 5 assists.

On deadline day of the 2016 Summer transfer window Newcastle signed Atsu on loan with a view to a permanent deal.

During his short spell at Newcastle Atsu has impressed us so far with his pace and skill on the wing, in his first start he scored a fantastic curling goal in our 1-0 win over Rotherham. He creates chances and he always looks like making something happen when playing on the wing. He could potentially work on his end product, but when attacking opposition full backs you always fancy the Ghanaian to come out on top.

He’s a player who Newcastle fans like because we urge wingers to run at the opposition full backs. We’ve already seen how influential Atsu can be, has he found a new home at Newcastle United?
