McClaren will be given time

According to The Chronicle, Steve McClaren will not be sacked as Newcastle manager, despite the poor run of form they are currently enduring.

They understand that managing director Lee Charnley has given Steve McClaren his full support, and trusts him to be the man to keep Newcastle in the Premiership.

Newcastle currently sit 18th, having slipped into the relegation zone on goal difference following their 5-1 thrashing at the hands of Chelsea. They have only 24 points after 26 games and have only two wins in their last 10 matches. The Magpies are the joint third lowest scorers in the league this season, having got on the scoresheet only 27 times. Only West Brom and Aston Villa have scored less.

Newcastle have an 18-day break between the Chelsea defeat and their next fixture, a trip to the Britannia to face Stoke City. The previous fixture between the pair resulted in a 0-0 stalemate.
