Newcastle have made contact with the agent of Marseille goalkeeper Steve Mandanda ahead of a January move, according to L’Equipe (via GFFN).
Fellow Premier League clubs Liverpool, Aston Villa and Norwich are also thought to be interested in signing the 30-year-old stopper.
Mandanda’s contract expires at the end of the season, and it is believed that his experienced services would cost between €4m and €5m.

The Frenchman has made a staggering 283 appearances for Marseille, as well as appearing 21 times for the France national team.
His preferred destination would be Liverpool, with the Reds’ manager Jurgen Klopp preparing a January bid.
Mandanda has left the door open for a move to the Premier League next month, but the Magpies will have to put up with some fierce competition if they are to secure his signature.
With Rob Elliot in such good form, any move for Mandanda would come as a shock to the Toon faithful.
