Newcastle United defender Daryl Janmaat is desperate for the Magpies to pull away from the Premier League relegation zone over the hectic festive period.
Newcastle currently find themselves 17th in the table, just two points ahead of the bottom three, but seven points from the their last three games has instilled some much-needed belief into the Magpies’ squad ahead of what is certain to be a decisive period of the season.
Steve McClaren’s side put in their two best performances of the season to earn back-to-back victories against Liverpool and Spurs prior to Saturday’s home clash with bottom placed Aston Villa. However, to the frustration of the Toon Army, the Tynesiders were unable to record a third consecutive victory, as Remi Garde’s men held them to a disappointing 1-1 draw.

Ahead of the game with the stricken Villains, many had expected Newcastle to secure a comfortable victory, yet a combination of poor finishing and torrential conditions conspired to limit the Magpies to a single point.
Janmaat believes that the result typified what has arguably been the most unpredictable Premier League season to date, and the 26-year-old explained that there are no easy wins in the English top flight.
Speaking to The Shields Gazette, The Dutchman said:
“Yeah, I think every team in this league can get a win every week.
“Every win is a big thing in the Premier League. It’s not easy to win in this country.
Just look at this weekend’s results with Manchester United losing at home to Norwich, so it’s never easy to win a game in the Premier League.

Next up for Newcastle is a Boxing Day showdown with Everton at St James’ Park, and, despite being disappointed at their inability to beat Villa, Janmaat hopes that the Magpies can build upon their resurgence by picking up three vital points against The Blues:
“We must try to build on that now and try to climb up the table. It’s still a good run.
“Against Spurs we would have taken a point and against Villa a win, so if you turn them around then it looks better.
Next Saturday we have a good opportunity to beat Everton and get another three points. (It is) a nice game to look forward to.”
