Sissoko targets festive gift

Newcastle United midfielder Moussa Sissoko wants to give the Toon Army the perfect Christmas present this weekend – three points against Aston Villa.

The Magpies recorded back-to-back victories for the first time in over a year after stunning wins against Liverpool and Spurs, and now Sissoko wants United to continue their recent resurgence by piling the misery on Remi Garde’s hapless Villains.

A win over 20th placed Villa could see Newcastle put some much-needed daylight between themselves and the bottom three, and Sissoko is adamant that the Magpies are up for Saturday’s pivotal clash.

Speaking to The Chronicle, the French international said:

“We’re all focused on this game – that’s the players and the fans.

“They (Aston Villa) are bottom of the Premier League but it will still be a fantastic result for us (if we win). We savoured the win against Tottenham but now it is now about Aston Villa.

“We have trained well and we are ready for Saturday.”

Sissoko and his black and white teammates soaked in the adulation of the travelling Newcastle fans following the final whistle at White Hart Lane last Sunday, and the 26-year-old powerhouse feels that a newfound bond between players and supporters is beginning to reemerge after a largely miserable 2015:

“From the beginning our fans were behind us at Tottenham. The result wasn’t going for us but they stayed with us.

After a great win we celebrated with them. I say thank you to all of them. I hope they will be with us for the whole season – we want to give them another win against Aston Villa.

“After the great win against Liverpool we beat Spurs, now we must follow up again. Aston Villa will be a tough game but if we play like we did at Spurs, we can get three points.”
