Mitrovic: We don’t fear anybody

Magpies forward Aleksandar Mitrovic has said that Newcastle are not afraid of Manchester City, ahead of their clash with the second placed team at the weekend.

In an interview with the Newcastle Chronicle, the striker said that the team believe that they can beat anyone in the Premier League, and have renewed confidence after an impressive first half showing against current title-holders Chelsea.

We don’t fear anybody. They are a team we can beat for sure, like any team in the Premier League. We showed against Chelsea what we can do, especially in the first 45 minutes. We can play well against the big teams. Of course, we must continue to work hard and in the second half we dropped a little bit, we didn’t play how we needed to. But OK, the players were a little tired and we can improve that this week.

Newcastle will be hoping to make amends for the last time they played Manchester City, when they were on the wrong end of a 5-0 drubbing at the Etihad, and have not won against City in the league since 2004.

Mitrovic says that it is key that the players work hard and ensure not to have a repeat performance of the drop in class that allowed Chelsea to claw their way back into the game last week. he attributes it to player tiredness but says that this issue has been looked at and sorted in time for the game.

matchday.
