Newcastle’s chief scout Graham Carr was present at Olympique Lyonnais’ midweek game with Gent, to watch out-of-form striker Alexandre Lacazette, according to The Mirror.
The Frenchman is currently in the midst of a goal drought, having failed to find the back of the net in over 700 minutes of football.
Recently, Lacazette penned a new four-year deal with the Ligue 1 outfit to retain his value and deter potential suitors from raiding Lyon for their star man. He is valued at £35million by the French side, but his severe dip in form is clearly not helping Lyon convince suitors he’s worth that much.
The 24-year-old is a hot prospect and has been linked with the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea in the most recent transfer window.
He has made 142 appearances for Lyon, scoring 51 times, and has also made an impact on the national stage – making his debut in 2013 as a substitute for Olivier Giroud, in a defeat to Uruguay.
The report also states Carr was also eyeing up young central defender Samuel Umtiti. The 21-year-old has made 105 senior appearances for Lyon since signing his first professional contract in 2011. The Frenchman is yet to appear for his national team at senior level but has worked his way through the youth ranks since under-17 level.
