Newcastle to ‘break transfer record’

Newcastle to ‘break transfer record’

Newcastle United are set to hijack Tottenham Hotspur’s move for West Bromwich Albion star Saido Berahino, according to an ‘exclusive’ in The Express.

The Magpies would have to smash their all-time transfer record as West Brom have slapped a £20million price-tag on the 21-year-old, which they are reportedly prepared to do after giving up on signing QPR striker Charlie Austin.

The board of directors do not see the Hoops’ £15million price-tag for a 26-year-old with a shoulder problem and one year remaining on his current contract as good value for money, so they have turned their attentions to Berahino.

Spurs have made already an enquiry over the striker’s availability but seem unprepared to match the Baggies’ valuation.

Newcastle have already spent £35million this summer and are said to be in the market for one more player, but the new addition would pave the way for Papiss Cisse to depart St James’ Park.

While Berahino would be a welcome addition to Steve McClaren’s squad, this report must be taken with a pinch of salt.

matchday.
