Tiote heading for Newcastle exit

Newcastle midfielder Cheick Tiote appears to be nearing the exit door at St James’ Park as Trabzonspor enter advanced talks with the Ivorian, according to Turkish newspaper Fanatik.

Tiote has two years remaining on his current contract and his agent has grown frustrated with Newcastle’s unwillingness to offer his client an improved deal. As a result, the 29-year-old is set to depart this summer.

Premier League duo Southampton and West Ham had been linked with moves for the Ivorian midfielder earlier in the season, but it is Trabzonspor that are set to secure his signature.

The Turkish outfit are said to be desperate to complete the deal by Friday, ahead of their first pre-season training session.

Tiote only made 11 league appearances for the Magpies last season due to injuries, but has been an integral part of the club’s setup in the past. His presence was definitely missed in the heart of midfield, as interim boss John Carver was forced to play Ryan Taylor in centre midfield.

As one midfielder prepares to leave the club, another looks set to join. According to Dutch news outlet AD, Marco van Ginkel is poised to join Newcastle on loan – whether there will be a view to permanent has not been stated.
