Newcastle United target Patrick Bamford has informed Chelsea officials about his desire to stay at Stamford Bridge and has therefore ruled out a move to St. James’ Park, according to the Northern Echo.
Bamford starred in the Championship last season whilst he was on loan at Middlesborough, he scored 17 goals in the league and made himself one of the most sought-after players.
Newcastle are actively looking for a proven goalscorer and head coach Steve McLaren had earmarked Bamford as a key target. He had already played under the former England manager once before whilst at Derby County but their relationship was strained as McClaren had continuously played the striker out of position. McClaren had hoped to meet the young striker and put those matters to bed.
Clubs that were interested were banking on the player moving away from Chelsea due to the heavy competition for a place in the team, but it seems that Bamford is welcoming that competition. Furthermore, Jose Mourinho is willing to offer the player a new five-year new contract.
Newcastle will continue their hunt for strikers with Charlie Austin and Bas Dost being looked at along with a number of other strikers.
