Newcastle eye move for Reading youngster

Newcastle United will go head to head with Aston Villa this summer for Reading youngster Tarique Fosu, according to reports.

The 19-year-old only made his first-team debut as a substitute against Derby County on the final day of the Championship season, but he is already being tipped for greatness. The tricky and direct winger caused the Rams’ defence problems and a fine save from Lee Grant prevented Fosu scoring on his debut.

After the game, Fosu admitted he has got a taste for more and his intention is to fight for another first-team opportunity.

“This is where I want to be,” he said. “I’ve just got to keep my feet on the ground and keep pushing and hopefully I will get the opportunity.”

Should Newcastle follow up their initial interest and agree a fee with Reading, it is likely that Fosu will be loaned back to the Championship outfit for another season – similar to the deal struck with Nottingham Forest last summer, when the Magpies signed Karl Darlow and Jamaal Lascelles.
