Anderlecht defender Chancel Mbemba Mangulu has emerged as a target for a number of potential suitors, including Newcastle United, Atletico Madrid and Porto.
Newcastle’s chief scout Graham Carr has watched Chancel Mbemba on a number of occasions and, having been impressed by the 20-year-old, he hopes Lee Charnley can come to an agreement with Anderlecht.
Having suffered from an injury crisis this season, coupled with the exits of Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, Davide Santon and Remi Streete, the Magpies are down to just four fully-fit senior defenders at the moment. As a result, bolstering the squad’s defensive depth is among the highest priorities for Carr and co. this summer.
Meanwhile, Newcastle also remain hopeful of securing a deal for young French defender Yarouba Cissako, who’s emerged as a target for Premier League duo Liverpool and Everton.
Like Chancel, Yarouba is just 20-years-old and willing to cross the channel this summer.
