## **Stockdale explains why Newcastle rate Alfie Seldon**

[Speaking about the young forward to The Gazette](https://www.shieldsgazette.com/sport/football/newcastle-united/newcastle-united-high-hopes-teenage-forward-contract-9322027), Stockdale revealed that [Newcastle United](https://readnewcastle.com/tag/newcastle-united/) have high expectations for the teenager and highlighted his ability to play across the front three positions.

“Alfie is another young player we have high hopes for. He can play anywhere across the front three positions, he’s a really intelligent player, makes really good decisions on the pitch.

“The fact we are prepared to play them in the Under-21s at such a young age shows we think a lot of them. Again, his position on the pitch has a lot of competition but we’ve not shied away from playing him at Bradford City and places like that so if they are good enough and they warrant a place in the team, I’ll play them, I don’t care what age they are,” Stockdale said.

## **Newcastle continue to trust young academy players**

Newcastle United has a rich history of big names coming from the academy. The recent rise of [Lewis Miley](https://readnewcastle.com/tag/lewis-miley/) is a prime example for young Academy players to look up to.

The midfielder made history as the club’s youngest-ever Premier League and [Champions League](https://readnewcastle.com/tag/champions-league/) appearance-maker and goalscorer. He signed a long-term contract extension through 2032 and remains a key part of the first-team squad.

Seldon’s involvement with the Under-21s at just 17 shows the trust Newcastle have in his development. Despite facing competition for places across the forward line, Stockdale has made it clear that age will not prevent young players from earning opportunities.
