# Newcastle United youngster Alfie Seldon signs first professional contract on 17th birthday

Newcastle United’s Alfie Seldon has signed his first professional contract with the club, having spent a decade in the academy.

The 17-year-old left-winger has marked his coming of age by putting pen to paper on a deal that rewards his progress at St James’ Park as he bids to make the first team.

His birthday present will see him continue to flourish under the watchful eyes of Newcastle’s coaching staff as they look to push him into the first team next season.

Seldon announced the news on his Instagram account, having shared a picture of himself signing the contract in a Newcastle shirt. He described the moment as a proud one for him and his family and expressed his gratitude to all the people who had supported him on his way and promised to continue fighting.

## **Seldon impresses with Newcastle Academy performances**

The young forward has had an encouraging start to the season, delighting at the Under-18s and Under-21s levels.

He has netted six goals across all competitions, five of which have come in the Under-18s Premier League. Seldon also hit the net for Newcastle in their National League Cup defeat by Solihull Moors earlier this month.

The strike made him Newcastle’s youngest-ever scorer in the competition, a new milestone in a developing campaign.

Seldon has also had the chance to gain experience in the EFL Trophy and UEFA Youth League, offering him the chance to prove himself in competitions outside the academy’s domestic affairs.

## **Seldon targets Newcastle first-team opportunity**

Signing a pro-contract is a huge milestone, but Seldon is thinking about the next step already.

In the young player’s eyes, Newcastle’s recent first-team action involving academy graduates shows there are opportunities for those who impress

Speaking to Newcastle United’s official website, Seldon pointed out the importance of seeing the academy players take that next step into the first team. The youngster feels their progression is an example to others that if you perform, the rewards will come.

That pathway could provide encouragement as Seldon looks to turn his progress at youth level into senior opportunities.

However, the winger also has another target in mind this season: earning his first call-up to England.

Seldon has yet to represent his country but hopes his current form will help him earn recognition. He also wants to make his professional debut for Newcastle, whether in the Premier League or a cup competition.

Representing England is still something the teenager aspires to, and he is determined to keep getting better after finally earning his first professional contract.

## **Newcastle youngster sets sights on future success**

For Newcastle, Seldon’s contract is another landmark in the progress of a player who has been at the club for 10 years.

His six goals this season have elevated him to the top flight at academy level, and his experience in a range of competitions has provided further progression opportunities.

The next step is to stay at the top and continue developing through the ranks. With his first professional contract secured, Seldon can now aim to achieve his dreams at Newcastle and with England.
