# Newcastle’s Lewis Hall backed for England run as Henry Winter sends clear message to Tuchel

Henry Winter has urged Thomas Tuchel to give Newcastle United defender Lewis Hall a sustained run in England’s starting line-up.

Speaking on talkSPORT’s Sunday Edition, the journalist argued for continuity at left-back after England tried several different players in the position.

“And I think we should give Lewis Hall a run now,” Winter said, as reported by [talkSPORT](https://talksport.com/football/4623822/thomas-tuchel-solves-problem-position-lewis-hall-england/).

## Lewis Hall faces next England selection test

Hall has started England’s last two matches, following the 2-0 victory over Czechia with Saturday’s 7-0 win against Croatia.

He retained his place in Rijeka despite Tuchel making five changes, an encouraging detail in his attempt to establish himself internationally.

Our [report on Hall’s Croatia performance](https://readnewcastle.com/2026/10/03/newcastles-lewis-hall-hailed-as-constant-threat-as-england-hit-croatia-for-seven/) covered the positive assessment of his work on the left flank.

The next opportunity comes against Czechia at Wembley on Tuesday, with kick-off at 7:45pm BST.

Hall’s opening widened after [Nico O’Reilly withdrew from England’s squad](https://readnewcastle.com/2026/10/01/lewis-hall-england-oreilly-withdrawal-croatia/), but keeping the position when Tuchel has more options would represent another step.

For Newcastle supporters, that is the selection decision worth watching. Consecutive appearances have given Hall a platform; a longer run would let him build on it.

Winter’s recommendation adds support to that case, although Tuchel has yet to confirm his team for Tuesday’s fixture.
