# Newcastle-linked Giorgio Scalvini signs new deal after summer speculation

Giorgio Scalvini has signed a new Atalanta contract following a summer of Newcastle United transfer speculation.

[Atalanta confirmed the extension on Sunday](https://en.atalanta.it/news/atalanta-and-scalvini-together-onwards), strengthening their position over a defender repeatedly linked with a move to St James’ Park.

The announcement confirms that the 22-year-old has committed his future to the Italian club. Atalanta did not disclose the length of the new agreement in their statement.

## Giorgio Scalvini Newcastle links followed by contract extension

Newcastle’s reported interest featured throughout the summer, including [July claims that a deal worth around €45million was advancing](https://readnewcastle.com/2026/07/29/newcastle-united-advancing-deal-sign-45m-centre-back/).

Those reports did not lead to a completed transfer.

[Football Italia reported earlier this month](https://football-italia.net/scalvini-agrees-new-atalanta-contract/) that Scalvini had agreed fresh terms following Newcastle’s interest. The outlet described Atalanta’s position as firm, with the centre-back considered unavailable for sale.

Sunday’s announcement has now made the renewal official.

Scalvini joined Atalanta’s academy in 2015 and has made 144 senior appearances, according to the club.

## What the new deal means for Newcastle

A contract extension does not rule out a future transfer. However, it gives Atalanta greater control over any negotiations if Newcastle or another club makes an approach.

It also provides a clear update to the summer speculation: Scalvini remains in Bergamo with a renewed commitment to his current club.

Neither the announcement nor the earlier contract report confirms a fresh Newcastle bid or January agreement. Any suggestion of a renewed pursuit would require further evidence.
