# Newcastle United identify two transfer priorities after post-summer recruitment meeting

Newcastle United have reportedly identified two priority positions as work begins on future transfer windows.

The Magpies are said to be targeting a **young centre-back** and a **right-sided forward** as part of their long-term recruitment strategy.

According to [Coming Home Newcastle](https://cominghomenewcastle.sbnation.com/newcastle-united-transfer-news-rumors/26128/newcastles-two-transfer-priorities-revealed-after-recruitment-meeting), the priorities emerged following a post-summer meeting involving the club’s scouting department.

## Newcastle planning for future windows

The report says Newcastle want to continue lowering the age of the squad while building a player-trading model capable of sustaining long-term success.

There is no suggestion either position must be filled in January, and no specific deal is currently described as advanced.

Centre-back succession is understandable.

Dan Burn and Fabian Schär are both in the later stages of their careers, while Malick Thiaw and Sven Botman represent younger options around whom Newcastle can build.

## Right-sided forward also targeted

A younger right-sided attacker is also reportedly on the recruitment list.

Jacob Murphy is approaching the final stages of his current deal, while Anthony Elanga is one of Matthias Jaissle’s main options on that flank.

Newcastle have already shown a willingness to refresh the squad aggressively, with our [summer transfer coverage](https://readnewcastle.com/2026/09/10/matthias-jaissle-sends-blunt-message-struggling-newcastle-united-signings/) reflecting the scale of change at St James’ Park.

For now, the two positions should be viewed as recruitment priorities rather than confirmation that Newcastle will complete two January deals.
