# Amar Dedic Injury Return Date Set After Bosnia Coach Criticism

## Amar Dedic Expected Fit for October Return Following Bosnia Withdrawal

The [Amar Dedic](https://readnewcastle.com/squad/amar-dedic/) injury issue has forced the full-back out of the Bosnia and Herzegovina squad this week.

He re-aggravated a hamstring problem against Leeds United last week. National team coach Sergej Barbarez confirmed the news on Monday at the BiH camp.

Dedic joined Newcastle in a [summer arrival from Benfica](https://readnewcastle.com/2026/08/15/fabrizio-romano-confirms-newcastle-united-next-target-amar-dedic/), and had been named in Bosnia’s squad for this month’s Nations League fixtures before pulling out.

The 24-year-old was expected to feature for his country during the break, but now he will stay on Tyneside.

Dedic will spend the international window working through his recovery under the watch of the club’s medical staff.

## Sergej Barbarez Criticises Newcastle Playing Dedic Against Leeds United

Barbarez says Dedic should be back once the international break ends and he expects the right-back to be fit for Newcastle’s match on 12 October.

That will offer some reassurance to supporters watching an already stretched right-back position.

Barbarez did not hide his frustration. He was unhappy with how Newcastle handled Dedic’s fitness before the Leeds game.

Speaking about the situation, as [reported by Chronicle Live](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/newcastle-united-amar-dedic-injury-34652269), he set out the timeline of the injury in detail.

“Amar Dedic re-aggravated his hamstring injury in the game against Leeds United,” Barbarez said.

The issue first appeared during the Carabao Cup tie against Millwall. He picked up a knock there that affected his training in the days that followed, but recovered enough to be selected against Leeds, only to reaggravate the same hamstring during that match.

Barbarez made his view clear. Dedic should not have played that day.

“If he had not played that game he would be joining us right now,” he said.

The coach confirmed the defender would miss Bosnia’s Nations League fixtures this month, in what is expected to be a short term absence.

“Now he (Dedic) will miss this window of Nations League for us and should be ready for the first game after the international break for Newcastle United ,” added Barbarez.

## Right-Back Crisis Mounts as Tino Livramento Strain Forces Lewis Miley Cover

Dedic’s absence has added to a right-back headache for Matthias Jaissle.

[Tino Livramento](https://readnewcastle.com/squad/tino-livramento/) is Newcastle’s first-choice option in the role. He withdrew from the England squad after picking up a training strain ahead of the club’s [victory over Hull City](https://readnewcastle.com/2026/09/19/newcastle-united-2-1-hull-city-match-report/).

That withdrawal came only days after Dedic’s own injury flared up against Leeds.

With both senior right-backs unavailable, Jaissle turned to midfielder [Lewis Miley](https://readnewcastle.com/squad/lewis-miley/) for emergency cover, even though Miley is far more familiar with a central role.

He filled in at right-back as Newcastle won the match, a switch confirmed in the [team news against Hull City](https://readnewcastle.com/2026/09/19/newcastle-vs-hull-city-confirmed-team-news-lineups/) published before kick-off.
