# Newcastle United handed boost by Enzo Maresca’s transfer hint

Newcastle United’s summer so far has been about departures, and big ones at that. On top of the players, Eddie Howe has left in the middle of pre-season as well. Matthias Jaissle has come in as his replacement.

Jaissle is a good coach and he started off his reign with a win over Valencia. But if he is going to have a genuine chance of meeting the fans’ expectations at [Newcastle United](https://readnewcastle.com/2026/08/09/newcastle-united-closer-first-matthias-jaissle-signing-hint/), he needs to be given more quality players.

One from Manchester City has been linked with the club recently. And there is some good news regarding that, as it looks like Newcastle United might have a chance of signing him.

## Enzo Maresca’s transfer hint hands boost to Newcastle United

As reported by [Simon Bajkowski](https://x.com/spbajko/status/2086443205697130678), Maresca said when asked if Omar Marmoush will be staying at Manchester City this season:

> “The answer has to be similar to the one I answer about James Trafford. Players work every day, they want to play so when they don’t play they are not happy.”

Maresca further continued to hint at Marmoush potentially leaving the club as he said:

> “Omar did not play a lot last year so his desire is probably to play more minutes. It doesn’t mean that he isn’t going to play more minutes here but it’s also his decision, and to understand his decision in details.”

## Would Omar Marmoush be the right signing?

It has been suggested in recent days that Newcastle United are one of the clubs keeping an eye out on Marmoush. While most of the talk has been about midfielders, there is no doubt that the Magpies could do with a bit more quality up top as well.

They saw Alexander Isak leave last summer for Liverpool. His replacements were not able to produce good enough results to be considered satisfactory.

Nick Woltemade had started brilliantly and scored four times in his first five Premier League games. But he would lose his way and finish the campaign with just 11 goals to his name. By the end of the season, a lot of the time, he was not even playing as a forward.

On the other hand, Yoann Wissa’s season was even worse. He scored just three goals across all competitions, and only on in the Premier League.

Naturally, Newcastle United could do with another forward. And Marmoush could be the solution to their problems, depending on the transfer fee Manchester City are looking for. They spent £59 million to sign him from Eintracht Frankfurt in the middle of the 2024/25 season, after he had scored 20 times in 26 games.

His output has dropped at Man City by quite some margin. He has scored just 16 times in 61 games. Then again, he has not been playing a lot either.

Marmoush might be the kind of player who needs a run of games to find his form. But at Manchester City, you rarely get time to prove yourself. Either you perform consistently or you find yourself on the bench. So, a club like Newcastle United might be a better fit to get the best out of him.
