Newcastle United sign £85m Liverpool star, Sandro Tonali 2.0 and James Trafford in XI if transfer rumours true
  • Newcastle United linked with Liverpool forward
  • James Trafford still on shopping list
  • Magpies target Sandro Tonali replacement

Newcastle United are poised to confirm their first summer signing with Ewen Jaouen coming through the doors at St James’ Park.

It’s an exciting addition for Eddie Howe and comes after weeks of transfer news that had been centred on exits from Tyneside.

The Magpies are still expected to see big-name first-team stars leave, but that will also open the door for more additions. ReadNewcastle looks at this week’s rumours to see how Newcastle could line up next season, should rumours prove true.

Newcastle United transfer XI if rumours are true

Goalkeeper – James Trafford

Defenders – Lewis Hall, Malick Thiaw, Kacper Potulski, Tino Livramento

Newcastle United are on the verge of signing highly-rated Reims goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen for £18 million, with a medical taking place on Tuesday, but the 20-year-old is not expected to be fast-tracked into the number one spot.

The Chronicle claims that the Magpies are still pursuing a move for Manchester City man James Trafford, having missed out last summer. Nick Pope is linked with Ipswich Town and Leeds United, with Aaron Ramsdale having returned to Southampton.

Lee Ryder claims that no approach has been made for Tino Livramento, while former Premier League scout Mick Brown believes talk of Manchester United interest in Lewis Hall is unlikely to materialise.

That could mean the Newcastle back four remains largely intact. Sky Sports Germany credit the Magpies with interest in 18-year-old FSV Mainz 05 centre-back Kacper Potulski, but the teenager would have to oust Sven Botman or Fabian Schar from the XI.

Midfielders – Bruno Guimaraes, Joelinton, Lamine Camara

Wingers – Cody Gakpo, Harvey Barnes

Striker – William Osula

Arsenal are said to have made calls over the availability of Sandro Tonali in recent days, with Manchester United also linked with the Italy international. The Telegraph names Monaco man Lamine Camara as a potential replacement.

Harvey Barnes had been linked with a move to Aston Villa last month after a fine 2025/26 campaign but Magpies fans will be glad to see those rumours die down since then.

The Magpies have been linked with a sensational swoop for Liverpool star Cody Gakpo this week, with the Reds supposedly considering a summer sale. Liverpool could want a staggering £85 million for the 27-year-old.

William Osula, Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa all remain on the books at St James’ Park. A move for a new striker would only come if at least one of the trio were to be sold.
