- Amanda Staveley could return to Newcastle United
- West Ham top investment target if they avoid the drop
- Magpies could do with a strong figure back on Tyneside
Newcastle United are preparing for a transitional summer under the Saudi Public Investment Fund. The owners are not expected to sell the club but a new recruitment strategy is to be ushered in.
The PIF era got off to a flying start with Amanda Staveley the face of the takeover but early progress has stuttered this season with the Magpies in freefall down the Premier League table.
Reports from Alan Nixon claim that Staveley is considering making a return to football, with West Ham being an ideal opportunity, so long as the club remains in the Premier League.
Currently, the Hammers are involved in a relegation dogfight alongside Tottenham, Nottingham Forest and Leeds United, though it seems one of the London clubs will be playing football in the Championship next season.
Amanda Staveley return to the Premier League feels inevitable
Last year, Staveley and her husband, Mehrdad Ghodoussi, were heavily linked to a takeover of Tottenham Hotspur, though nothing came to fruition.
Now, the Hammers seem like a potential destination for the former Newcastle minority owners, who could look to revitalise the club just as they did at St James’ Park.
It’s understood that for a deal to be completed for the London Stadium outfit, it would require a fee of £2 billion for a change in ownership, something seen as unrealistic if they are to be relegated.
If Staveley is not to buy a stake in the club, it’s believed Hammers minority owner, Czech billionaire Daniel Kretinsky, may purchase a larger piece of the pie. Nixon claims that Staveley ‘could’ then look to get back involved with Newcastle, amid uncertainty with PIF.
Back in 2024, the pair left Tyneside after a ‘reluctant’ conclusion between all parties involved at the club.
Despite that, the 54-year-old had kind words to share about the club before discussing what is next in line.
She said :“It’s so hard to move on from a club that’s amazing. We could never move on from Newcastle, and we never will. But yes, we’re looking at a number of investment operations.”
PIF to meet Eddie Howe at Newcastle United this week
There is no hiding it. Staveley was a strong figure on Tyneside, who helped combine the football side with the business, building solid foundations for their recent success.
Since her departure, the structure is now turning to rubble, and someone or something must step in before the club has to return to square one.
The Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund (PIF) have confirmed that they are still invested in the project at St James’ Park despite concerns over other business ventures, including LIV Golf. Owners are to meet with Eddie Howe this week.
