Newcastle: PIF eye January swoop for £60M speedster

Newcastle United may look to “revisit” a deal for Bayer Leverkusen winger Moussa Diaby in the upcoming January transfer window.

That is according to transfer insider Dean Jones, who believes the 23-year-old would be a “fantastic signing” for the club.

The insider feels as though the club could make an enquiry in January to see if the situation has changed, having pursued Diaby in the summer.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Jones said: “There’s always that factor of, ‘can he definitely be a success here?’

“I think he probably will be. I think it’d be a fantastic signing, and it wouldn’t surprise me if Newcastle do revisit it in January just to see if the situation’s changed at all.”

Worth a revisit?

A revisit for a star like Diaby is completely worth it from the perspective of PIF in regards to the level of reward that would come with such an acquisition.

Indeed, times have changed since the summer, when Diaby was a member of the France national team. But, having been omitted from the squad ahead of the World Cup, his value and attitude could well be impacted.

A high-profile £60million switch to Newcastle United would firmly put his name on the radar of Didier Deschamps, and if he could replicate his goalscoring form in the Premier League, then he would be a sure-fire pick due to the increased level of notoriety.

Arguably, he’s shown enough to earn a place in the squad this season, garnering nine goal contributions in the form of six goals and three assists from 15 Bundesliga games, building on from a stellar season last term that saw him notch 13 goals and 12 assists in 32 league appearances.

Diaby’s inverted approach makes him a direct threat from the right wing, but his versatility would most likely see him deployed on the left, with Miguel Almiron too good to replace as of right now.
