# Newcastle: Insider urges club to move for £60M World Cup star

Newcastle United have been urged to increase the effort levels surrounding their pursuit of Qatar-bound Leicester City midfielder James Maddison.

That is according to transfer insider [Dean Jones](https://www.givemesport.com/88081563-newcastle-transfer-news-another-offer-howe-target-january), who has informed [GIVEMESPORT](https://www.givemesport.com/88081563-newcastle-transfer-news-another-offer-howe-target-january) that Newcastle have already attempted to sign Maddison on two occasions.

The insider is now urging the Magpies to go back in for the England international for a third time.

There are ways in which Newcastle can up the ante, and the most obvious is by meeting Leicester’s financial demands.

If the club are to achieve this, then Jones believes that Maddison will have an extremely difficult decision to make, bearing in mind his strong relationship with Brendan Rodgers.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Jones [said](https://www.givemesport.com/88081563-newcastle-transfer-news-another-offer-howe-target-january): *I think they should probably put in another offer in January just to see whether they can do this, especially if they know there are other clubs like Tottenham watching this situation.*

*“It’ll be a really interesting one for him to think about and it will test his loyalty to Brendan Rodgers.”*

## **Howe would love him**

Who wouldn’t love an underrated England international who garnered 20 attacking returns in the form of [12 goals](https://www.fotmob.com/players/493165/james-maddison) and [eight assists](https://www.fotmob.com/players/493165/james-maddison) across 35 appearances last season?

It’s rare to find such an impactful and domineering source of creativity who does not look to steal the show and grab all of the headlines.

Maddison seems to go about his business with Leicester left unscathed.

The 25-year-old adapts to the system, rather than playing in a set way, and that is both down to his technical ability and his team-player mentality.

In terms of creative threat in the Newcastle side, Kieran Trippier is the only notable threat, conjuring up an impressive [32 chances created](https://www.fotmob.com/leagues/47/stats/season/17664/players/total_att_assist/premier-league-players) so far in the Premier League this season.

Maddison sits top for Leicester, having created [31 chances.](https://www.fotmob.com/leagues/47/stats/season/17664/players/total_att_assist/premier-league-players)

Both players sit third and fourth respectively in the chance creation charts, not too far off Kevin De Bruyne’s total of [45 chances created](https://www.fotmob.com/leagues/47/stats/season/17664/players/total_att_assist/premier-league-players) thus far.

We’ll be able to see the connection between Maddison and Trippier at the World Cup, but it goes without saying, placing a player with Trippier’s level of threat in the more advanced positions seems like a recipe for success.
