Newcastle United transfer target Yannick Carrasco may be forced out of the Metropolitano Stadium after Atletico dropped out of the Champions League.
That is according to a report from Spanish outlet AS who have declared that Atletico’s European demise will come with financial repercussions.
The report suggests that Diego Simeone’s side will need to raise €30m (£26m) after faltering in the Champions League group stages to the point where they are now left without any European football for the remainder of the campaign.
A previous report from the Spanish outlet suggested that Newcastle were eyeing a move for the Belgium international.
Newcastle’s Hazard?
Having been linked to £52million star Carrasco in the summer, Newcastle United now have the opportunity to prise the 29-year-old from the clutches of Simeone, who will be forced to sell the star as things stand.
This move has Newcastle written all over it in many ways.
A cut-price fee for a star who is elite on his day would bolster the squad no end.
Operating primarily as an inverted left midfielder with ability with both feet, Carrasco could quite simply become Newcastle United’s Eden Hazard on the left, back when he was playing his best stuff at Chelsea, of course.
Carrasco offers squad-topping metrics in regards to direct threat, creating 54 chances in La Liga for Atletico, creating 10 big chances and registering six assists for a relatively conservative footballing side.
Just imagine the damage that the Belgian international could do in a progressive 4-3-3 system under the tutelage of Eddie Howe.
The Toon should cash in on the ever-changing football landscape and snap up this deal for a cut-price fee.
