# Newcastle backed to qualify for UCL this season

Newcastle United can usurp their rivals and finish in the Premier League’s top four this season.

That is according to transfer insider [Dean Jones](https://www.givemesport.com/88078906-newcastle-champions-league), who has backed the Tyneside outfit to qualify for the Champions League in the short term.

The insider is impressed with Newcastle’s chart-topping defensive record and believes there is no reason why the club cannot finish in the top four – the position they currently occupy.

Speaking to [GIVEMESPORT](https://www.givemesport.com/88078906-newcastle-champions-league), Jones said: *“Honestly, at this point I don’t see any reason why they don’t end fourth. Defensively they’ve obviously proven themselves.*

*“Eddie Howe as a tactician is very good, but also as a man manager and the performances he’s getting out of some of these players is really impressive.”*

## **A game-changing prediction**

It goes without saying, Newcastle United do not look out of place in the modern-day top four and are good value for their position, boasting the [best defence in the league](https://www.fotmob.com/teams/10261/stats/newcastle-united/teams), conceding just [10 goals](https://www.fotmob.com/teams/10261/stats/newcastle-united/teams) so far.

Despite possessing a transfer kitty that could blow nearby competition out of the water, the Magpies have been astute in their decision-making so far and have built a solid foundation with a humble, yet technical cast in defence.

Howe’s efforts as a tactician has seen Pep Guardiola wax lyrical over the side, [stating](https://twitter.com/City_Xtra/status/1586112121653186560) that “Newcastle are already there” \[in the fight for the Premier League title\].

With their progressive approach and solid backline, there is no reason why the Toon cannot skip a few steps and qualify for the Champions League this season, which would make for a massive opportunity to lure some of Europe’s biggest names to the exciting Saudi-led project in the summer.
