# Bruno Guimaraes nearing a return to fitness as journalist provides an encouraging update

**Newcastle United are hopeful that star midfielder Bruno Guimaraes will return soon.**

That’s according to journalist Pete O’Rourke who has been speaking to [GIVEMESPORT](https://www.givemesport.com/88057453-newcastle-pretty-hopeful-90k-a-week-star-will-return-soon-at-st-james-park) amid the Brazilian’s injury trouble.

Bruno has missed each of the Toon’s [last three games](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/bruno-guimaraes/leistungsdaten/spieler/520624) with a hamstring issue and he recently expressed on NUFCTV via [Shields Gazzette](https://www.shieldsgazette.com/sport/football/newcastle-united/bruno-guimaraes-issues-injury-update-at-newcastle-united-ahead-of-west-ham-united-3834511) that he was ‘working hard’ to get back to full fitness.

With Allan Saint-Maximin and Callum Wilson also [on the shelf](https://www.premierinjuries.com/teams/newcastle-united), Eddie Howe’s charges have collected just two points from the last nine on offer without a win since the opening weekend.

Without doubt the English coach will be itching for his star names to return as the Magpies look to climb from their current position of [11th](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/tables) and it appears that Bruno is close to healing.

Speaking to GMS O’Rourke said: “I’m sure Bruno Guimaraes isn’t too far away, and they’re pretty hopeful that he could be back soon. He’s already such a key player for Eddie Howe and Newcastle.”

Indeed the [eight-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/bruno-guimaraes/nationalmannschaft/spieler/520624/verein_id/3439) Brazil international has enjoyed his spell on Tyneside thus far since a [£40m move](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11678/12527185/bruno-guimaraes-newcastle-sign-brazil-international-midfielder-from-lyon) from Lyon back in January.

The Olympic gold medalist scored [five goals in 17 games](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/bruno-guimaraes/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/520624) for the club last season and he posted a [7.25](https://www.sofascore.com/team/football/newcastle-united/39) SofaScore rating for the campaign ranking second among his teammates.

It has become clear why Arsenal, PSG and Manchester United were all [reportedly](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11678/12527185/bruno-guimaraes-newcastle-sign-brazil-international-midfielder-from-lyon) interested before Dan Ashworth brokered a deal and with fixtures [postponed](https://www.premierleague.com/news/2786560) this weekend due to the Queen’s passing it will afford Bruno more time to rehabilitate from his injury.
