Midfield target Andrey Santos is believed to have a £43m release clause in his contract amid a bid from Newcastle United.
Globo Esporte revealed on Tuesday that the Toon have made an offer of around €35m (£30m) for the Brazilian starlet with his current employers Vasco da Gama set to consider the offer in the ‘coming days’.
The transfer window may have only shut but it seems as if Dan Ashworth and his recruitment team are continuing to work on new signings.
The same source suggests that the 18-year-old could be persuaded by the interest from Newcastle as he has a ‘desire’ to play in one of Europe’s major leagues and it claims that the Magpies’ project appeals to his representatives.
However, the holding midfielder is thought to have recently signed a new five-year deal until 2027 although Globo Esporte state that it won’t be made official to Thursday or Friday.
It is thought that the fresh terms would include a €50m (£43m) release clause which may see the need for an improved offer from the northeast club.
The six-cap Brazil U16 prospect has also been attracting interest from Barcelona as well as reports linking Wolves, Benfica, Monaco and AC Milan with a move.
GOAL have likened the rising star to midfield general Sergio Busquets while former Vasco and Lyon architect Juninho Pernambucano described his compatriot as a “monster”.
With just 23 senior appearances in Brazil’s second tier Santos is still very inexperienced but with the plaudits, he is already gaining, PIF could well make the plunge to bring in one of South America’s hottest prospects.
