Newcastle won’t sign Julian Draxler despite report

Newcastle United have struggled for goals this season, scoring only six times in four Premier League games. Ryan Fraser, Matt Ritchie and Jacob Murphy don’t have a goal or assist between them either, so Eddie Howe could benefit from bolstering his attack even after signing Alexander Isak.

One player Newcastle have been linked with is Julian Draxler from Paris Saint-Germain, but it’s unlikely they’ll sign the 28-year-old due to his poor form and injury woes. Media Foot (h/t Sport Witness) say Newcastle are planning a late move for Draxler, but there are much better options in the transfer market.

Draxler joined PSG from Vfl Wolfsburg in 2017 and has gone on to make 198 appearances in all competitions, scoring 26 goals with 41 assists. The German international has struggled in recent years, however, scoring just four goals with three assists from 24 Ligue 1 games in 2020/21 and scoring two goals with one assist from 18 Ligue 1 games in 2021/22.

Draxler hasn’t scored a goal or made an assist since September 2021, so why would Newcastle want him? The 28-year-old hasn’t made an appearance this season due to a knee injury too, last playing in March, so reports linking the Magpies to the playmaker are wide of the mark. This wouldn’t be a good move.

In other news, Newcastle must sign Youri Tielemans before transfer deadline

matchday.
