Newcastle unlikely to sign Tiemoue Bakayoko

Newcastle United are currently without Jonjo Shelvey and Bruno Guimaraes so Eddie Howe is having to name a midfield of Sean Longstaff, Joe Willock and Joelinton, but the Magpies are unlikely to make a move for Tiemoue Bakayoko despite reports in Italy.

According to Calciomercato, Newcastle and Nottingham Forest are keen to sign the 28-year-old who contracted to Chelsea until 2024. He’s currently on loan at AC Milan until the end of the season, but the Rossoneri want to cancel his deal early, so his future is up in the air.

Bakayoko is yet to make an appearance for Milan this season and has been an unused substitute for all four of the Rossoneri’s games. The French international barely played last season either, so his loan at the San Siro couldn’t be going worse.

Newcastle could certainly benefit from signing a defensive-midfielder with Premier League experience, but it’s hard to see them going for Bakayoko. The player is looking to terminate his deal at Milan and contract at Chelsea so he can join a new club on a free transfer, but it remains to be seen if his request is granted.

Howe has been targeting younger players who can develop as they approach their prime, so Bakayoko might be too old for their new transfer policy.

In other news, Newcastle can handle Martin Dubravka’s exit

matchday.
