# Agbonlahor says Newcastle ‘won’t want’ to sign Calvert-Lewin

Newcastle United are on the hunt for a striker this summer as Chris Wood only managed two goals in [16 Premier League games](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/newcastle-united/leistungsdaten/verein/762/reldata/GB1%262021/plus/1), Joelinton netted just four times in 35 outings and Dwight Gayle failed to score at all, but Gabriel Agbonlahor doesn’t believe they should make a move for Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Callum Wilson scored more goals (8) than Wood, Joelinton and Gayle put together and Newcastle were 12th in the league for goals scored (44) this season, so a prolific centre-forward is needed.

Calvert-Lewin is one of many players they’ve been linked, but *Read Newcastle* have previously [warned](https://readnewcastle.com/2022/06/24/newcastle-signing-dominic-calvert-lewin-would-go-against-transfer-policy/) against a move given his poor form (five goals in [18 games](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/dominic-calvert-lewin/leistungsdaten/spieler/306024)) and injury woes this season (26 games missed). With a [£60m asking price](https://readnewcastle.com/2022/06/15/newcastle-wont-pay-60m-for-dominic-calvert-lewin/), Agbonlahor doesn’t believe the Everton striker is worth the money.

When asked whether Newcastle could sign Calvert-Lewin for cheap, he told [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/agbonlahor-issues-warning-to-newcastle-united-after-sources-dominic-calvert-lewin-reveal/): “They could do. I think what (Everton are) asking for would probably be too much for Calvert-Lewin.

“He was poor last season, injured a lot. I think with Callum Wilson’s injury problems, Newcastle won’t want to bring in Calvert-Lewin has injury problems as well. So I don’t see that happening.”

Wilson [played](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/callum-wilson/leistungsdaten/spieler/123682) in only 18 of 38 league games in 2021/22, so he was sidelined for the majority of the campaign. Having two strikers who can’t last a full season would be a nightmare for Howe. Newcastle would have to break their transfer record to meet Everton’s demands, so a deal doesn’t look on the cards.
