# Newcastle signing Calvert-Lewin would go against transfer policy

Since Newcastle United’s [takeover](https://www.nufc.co.uk/news/latest-news/pif-pcp-capital-partners-and-rb-sports-media-acquire-newcastle-united-football-club/) by Public Investment Fund, PCP Capital Partners and RB Sports & Media, it’s been common for the Magpies to be linked with every player in Europe. And with Eddie Howe on the hunt for a new striker, pundit can’t resist recommending centre-forwards for the club to sign.

The latest appears to be Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin. Paddy Kenny told [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/dominic-calvert-lewin-told-to-sign-for-newcastle-united-after-60m-update-pundit/) days ago that the 25-year-old should make the switch to the North-East, saying: “Newcastle need a striker and Everton need money so it kind of makes sense.”

Calvert-Lewin scored 21 goals from [39 games](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/dominic-calvert-lewin/leistungsdaten/spieler/306024/plus/0?saison=2020) in all competitions last season and would surely jump a sinking ship that narrowly evaded relegation this campaign, but the 25-year-old hasn’t had a good 12 months.

He spent a lot of this season out with a fractured toe and didn’t set the place alight when he was fit. Calvert-Lewin scored just five goals in [18 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/dominic-calvert-lewin/leistungsdaten/spieler/306024/plus/0?saison=2021) across the board, though he ended the campaign strongly with two goals and an assist from his final three league outings.

But with the England international having a £60m asking price, he goes against [Newcastle’s transfer policy](https://readnewcastle.com/2022/05/31/newcastle-uniteds-transfer-policy-under-eddie-howe-revealed/). The Magpies aren’t being held to ransom by selling clubs just because they have lucrative resources, so Calvert-Lewin’s asking price would likely need to drop before a move can get over the line.

Newcastle’s [transfer record](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/newcastle-united/transferrekorde/verein/762) is shy of £40m, so they wouldn’t spend £20m more  for a player with 45 Premier League goals from [164 games](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/dominic-calvert-lewin/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/306024/plus/0?saison=&verein=&liga=&wettbewerb=GB1&pos=&trainer_id=).
