# Jamaal Lascelles still has future at Newcastle

Jamaal Lascelles had an uncertain future at Newcastle United after Dan Burn forged an impressive partnership alongside Fabian Schar. The 28-year-old was dropped by Eddie Howe due to [poor form](https://readnewcastle.com/2022/03/25/paul-robinson-says-poor-jamaal-lascelles-is-not-good-enough/) and the Magpies were [linked](https://readnewcastle.com/2022/03/28/noel-whelan-says-eddie-howe-must-strengthen-defence-despite-signing-dan-burn/) with potential replacements at centre-back, but Lascelles’ situation has flipped after returning to the starting eleven and putting in some good performances.

The 28-year-old finally got a chance to prove his worth in April and May and didn’t disappoint. After amassing just 117 minutes of Premier League football between mid-February and late-April, Howe brought Lascelles back to the fold for Newcastle’s final five league games.

He was given a player rating of [8/10](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/newcastle-united-player-ratings-joelinton-23765970) after the 3-0 win over Norwich City, received a player rating of [6/10](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/newcastle-united-liverpool-player-ratings-23831247) after the 1-0 defeat to Liverpool, had a player rating of [4/10](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/man-city-newcastle-player-ratings-23898171) by after the 5-0 defeat to Manchester City, was given a player rating of [7/10](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/newcastle-arsenal-player-ratings-bruno-23975171) after the 2-0 win over Arsenal and received a player rating of [8/10](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/burnley-newcastle-united-player-ratings-24030297) after the 2-1 win over Burnley, so he had a great finish to the campaign.

Lascelles has made [26 Premier League appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jamaal-lascelles/leistungsdaten/spieler/183318) this season, scoring one goal. He [struggled](https://readnewcastle.com/2021/12/17/fans-on-social-media-blast-terrible-jamaal-lascelles-after-liverpool-defeat/) during the first half of the campaign but looked more convincing in 2022 and was [praised by Howe](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/eddie-howe-lascelles-newcastle-captain-24046828) for his upturn in form, so there’s little chance he’s offloaded.
