Dan Burn was solid v Burnley

Newcastle United ended the season on a high with a 2-1 win at Burnley on Sunday afternoon and Dan Burn was one of many players to put in a good performance. The 30-year-old started alongside Jamaal Lascelles at centre-back and limited the Clarets to only one goal at Turf Moor.

No Newcastle player won more aerial duels, no player had more clearances and no player made more interceptions than Burn. Dominic Scurr of the Shields Gazette gave Burn a player rating of 7/10, Max Parsons of 90min gave the 30-year-old a player rating of 6/10 and Lee Ryder of Chronicle Live gave Burn a player rating of 9/10.

Burn had 53 touches, won nine aerial duels, completed 66.7% of his 33 passes, made two tackles, had two interceptions and made nine clearances against the Clarets. He wasn’t at fault for Burnley’s goal and had to sustain a lot of pressure as the Clarets chased an equaliser, but he did all he could to get Newcastle over the line.

Burn has been a fantastic signing for the Magpies and is a towering presence at the back, so Newcastle’s defence has never looked more resolute.
