Newcastle United enjoyed a 2-0 win over Arsenal on Monday evening and Dan Burn was one of many players who impressed. The 30-year-old started alongside Fabian Schar at centre-back but finished the game alongside Jamaal Lascelles after the Swiss international picked up a second-half injury.
No Newcastle player won more aerial duels, no player made more clearances, and no player blocked more shots than Burn over the 90 minutes, so he was deserving of all the plaudits. Burn helped limit Arsenal to only two shots on target at St James’ Park, so he earned the clean sheet.
Lee Ryder of Chronicle Live gave the former Brighton defender a player rating of 9/10 and said he was ‘rock solid’ against the Gunners. Ryder also believes he’s performing at a level that deserves international recognition.
Dominic Scurr of Shields Gazette gave Burn a player rating of 8/10 and said he made some ‘great’ blocks to keep Arsenal at bay. Jude Summerfield of 90min gave the 30-year-old a player rating of 7/10 and said he had a strong second-half showing.
Against Arsenal, Burn had 43 touches, won two aerial duels, completed 83.3% of his 36 passes, blocked two shots and made four clearances. He’s been a fantastic signing for Newcastle and is finishing the season strongly.
