Kevin Campbell makes transfer prediction

Allan Saint-Maximin recently claimed to Sky Sports that ‘every player’ would want to be a part of Newcastle United’s project and Kevin Campbell believes the Magpies’ lucrative resources could see them pull off a major transfer coup this summer.

Newcastle signed Kieran Trippier from Atletico Madrid and Bruno Guimaraes from Olympique Lyonnais in January, so their first transfer window post-takeover was a success. And after 2022’s turnaround in form, high-profile players may be convinced that they’re not a flash in the pan.

Campbell told Football Insider: “Money will talk. Newcastle have to show they are willing to bring in big names and more high-profile players will join. It’s a snowball effect. If they can get moving in the market quickly, they have a real good chance of making a big statement next season.

“I expect them to make key signings. Money is not the be all and end all. You have to spend it wisely and show that you are serious. The right signings can change the whole mentality at the club.”

A total of five players were signed in January and they’re all regular starters when fit, so Newcastle haven’t been wasting money. The Toon Army are currently 9th in the Premier League table with 43 points from 34 games, boasting four straight wins ahead of Saturday’s meeting with Liverpool.

Newcastle can mathematically still finish in the top-six, but they’ll be delighted to stay in the top-half after spending the first few months of the season in a relegation battle.

Eddie Howe has been praised for Newcastle turnaround, as he’s improved the form of many existing players who struggled under Steve Bruce. So with the January arrivals complimenting the side perfectly, Newcastle’s project has got off to a perfect start.

Saint-Maximin is right to question who wouldn’t want a part of it.

In other news, Newcastle won’t sign Cedric Soares

matchday.
