Journalists say Burn was ‘solid’ and ‘dominant’ v Liverpool

Newcastle United suffered a narrow defeat to Liverpool on Saturday, losing 1-0 at St James Park, but Dan Burn is one of many players who can be proud of his efforts. The 29-year-old started alongside Fabian Schar at centre-back and put in an impressive defensive display despite Liverpool’s onslaught on their goal.

No Newcastle player blocked more shots or made more clearances than Burn on the day. Only one Newcastle player won more headers too. Dominic Scurr of The Shields Gazette gave the 29-year-old a player rating of 7/10 and said he was ‘dominant’ in the air.

Lee Ryder of Chronicle Live gave Burn a player rating of 7/10 and said he ‘put his heart in it’ on Saturday. Ryder added how the centre-back ‘battled hard’ and made a number of ‘vital’ interventions. Graeme Bailey of 90min gave the Newcastle man a player rating 7/10 and said he delivered a ‘very solid performance’ at the back.

Against Liverpool, Burn played for 90 minutes, had 32 touches, won four aerial duels, completed 63.2% of his 19 passes, made two tackles, had eight clearances and blocked one shot. The 29-year-old has made 13 appearances for Newcastle since his January arrival and looks like £13.5m well spent.

In other news, journalists say Martin Dubravka was ‘wonderful’ v Liverpool

matchday.
