Howe could transform Newcastle with Dybala

Dwight Gayle is surplus to requirements at Newcastle United and may be available for sale this summer, so Eddie Howe is likely to lose one striker from his first-team squad. And with Chris Wood scoring only two goals in 14 games since joining from Burnley, he might not be a regular in 2022/23.

Newcastle are 13th in the Premier League for goals and don’t have a player with more than six league goals this season, so the Magpies will look for a prolific centre-forward when the transfer window opens. Football Insider say Paulo Dybala is on of many on their shortlist.

The 28-year-old will leave Juventus at the end of his contract, sparking a battle between clubs for his signature. Dybala has scored 114 goals with 48 assists in 288 games for the Old Lady, so he’s a talented forward. The Argentine international would not only bring goals to the side but potentially other high-profile players, so Newcastle should go all out to sign him.

Howe must not only must strengthen the squad, he must prove big-name players can thrive at St James’ Park. Kieran Trippier and Bruno Guimaraes are the most notable signings to fit that profile, but Dybala could transform them to the next level overnight.

In other news, Newcastle should move for Southampton’s James Ward-Prowse

matchday.
