Newcastle should consider move for Toney

Newcastle United are 13th in the Premier League for goals and don’t have a player with more than six league goals this season, so Eddie Howe is sure to bring in another striker over the summer.

The Magpies aren’t short of attacking options with Callum Wilson, Chris Wood and Dwight Gayle at their disposal, but Wilson has struggled for fitness, Gayle is surplus to requirements and Wood hasn’t been prolific since his January move from Burnley.

One player Newcastle have on their radar is Ivan Toney. The 26-year-old was sold by the Magpies to Peterborough United (49 goals and 15 assists in 94 games) in 2018 and impressed before moving to Brentford (47 goals and 15 assists in 85 games).

Toney has scored 12 goals with four assists in 29 Premier League games this season, so he’s proven himself at the top level and has more goal contributions than Wilson (6) and Allan Saint-Maximin (9).

The uncapped Englishman has come a long way in the last four years and has publicly disrespected Brentford, so Newcastle have a good chance of bringing him back to St James’ Park.
