# Agbonlahor says Newcastle could sign Calvert-Lewin by ‘doubling his money’

Newcastle United are 14th in the [Premier League](https://www.whoscored.com/Regions/252/Tournaments/2/Seasons/8618/Stages/19793/TeamStatistics/England-Premier-League-2021-2022) for goals (32), 11th in the league for shots and only have one player with more than five league goals [this season](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/newcastle-united/leistungsdaten/verein/762/plus/0?reldata=GB1%262021), so one area Eddie Howe is sure to strengthen over the summer is in attack.

Chris Wood, who joined in January on a two-and-a-half-year deal from Burnley, has only scored one goal in [10 games](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/chris-wood/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/108725/plus/0?saison=&verein=762&liga=&wettbewerb=&pos=&trainer_id=) while top-scorer Callum Wilson (6) has [missed](https://readnewcastle.com/2022/03/26/danny-mills-says-newcastle-could-upgrade-callum-wilson-due-to-fitness-issues/) 26 Premier League games in his two seasons at Newcastle, so the pair may not be regulars in 2022/23.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin was [on Newcastle’s radar](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/17471703/newcastle-dominic-calvert-lewin-shearer-arsenal/) in January and may be again at the end of the season. The 25-year-old, who boasts four goals in 11 games for England, has had a hand in four goals from [10 Premier League outings](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/dominic-calvert-lewin/leistungsdaten/spieler/306024) at Everton this season and may jump at the chance to leave a struggling side.

Gabriel Agbonlahor says he ‘can see it happening’ as Newcastle could ‘double his money’. He told [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/newcastle-could-sign-dominic-calvert-lewin-in-double-your-money-deal-agbonlahor-can-see-it-happening/): “I can see that happening. If you look at Newcastle, they’re splashing the cash – he could probably double his money.

“Another factor is silverware. Newcastle are a lot more likely to win a trophy before Everton. They’ve got a plan to progress up that table by consistently spending money. I could see them winning something very soon – while Everton are in turmoil.”

Calvert-Lewin [joined](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/dominic-calvert-lewin/transfers/spieler/306024) the Toffees from Sheffield United in 2016 and has gone on to make [184 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/dominic-calvert-lewin/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/306024) in all competitions, scoring 56 goals with 17 assists.

The 25-year-old scored 13 goals from 36 Premier League games [in 2019/20](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/dominic-calvert-lewin/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/306024) and 16 goals from 33 league games in 2020/21, so he’s been a consistent performer when fit. Newcastle could do a lot worse.
